Is it possible to run a business and build a healthy family?

You bet!

I never knew this was a real-life-question until it happened to me. The business thing, I mean. I began to speak to more and more people and observe those in business a bit more closely. It’s sort of like car shopping, you know? When you start looking to buy a certain car and you’re picking out the colors and dreaming about what it would be like to have it, you start to see it everywhere. This is how it was for me when I started my business. I had become more and more aware of how business people were leading their family lives. And it was strikingly tough to see.

So many, who love their families and mean well, get caught up in the hours. In the rising of position and finance, and they lose sight of their families. But here’s the thing: Children do not grow up healthy because their parents made a lot of money. They grow up “healthy” because of Present Parents. And the decision to be a present parent will not present itself once, but over and over again. If you’re reading this and you’re in the corporate world with a family of your own, you already know what I mean. You will constantly be tested when it comes to work or family.

Now, hear me out. This also does not mean that you have to give up on your business or your dream. Take my business for example. I never dreamed of owning my own business in Marketing. It isn’t something that crossed my mind. But its something that crossed God’s mind. And He is the one whom put it in my lap. It just 13 months my family went from having “just enough” to making a nearly 6 figure income. This is a good example to look at simply because God gave me the business, but it doesn’t mean I have to sacrifice my family for it. In fact, its the total opposite. God gives us wisdom to steward the call and our family, all in one go. Thankfully, I had a huge value for family before my business and was already fighting to be an intentional parent. So when the business stuff came, and it tried to step into my family time, I already had boundaries in place to protect my family.

Where are you with your business, friend? Maybe you feel disconnected from your family because you’ve sacrificed time with them to grow. Maybe you let that business go out of fear of not being able to do both well. I’m here now to tell you that it is possible to pursue what God has placed in front of you; while sustaining and building a healthy family. Take some time to write down ways you can “clock out” of work, and be present with your family. Ask God to help you and give you the courage to make those decisions.

Drop me a question on the Contact section. I’d love to hear from you!

Sincerely,

Jessica
